Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Lasting a mere 91 seconds, with the time it took the fighters to enter the ring lasting longer than the actual bout, Mike Tyson was the current holder of the belts of all three of the major sanctioning organizations (World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association, and International Boxing Federation), while opponent Michael Spinks was the Ring and Boxing Illustrated magazine champion, with both fighters undefeated. Held at the Atlantic City Convention Hall on June 27, 1988, the fight would be the last of his career for Spinks, with this his only loss. Rare and seldom seen, we have an exceptional original advertising banner for the epic bout. Massive in length at approx 54” x 480” – which is 40 feet long! – the nylon banner sports sewn on tackle twill letters and numbers, with “Tyson vs Spinks” and “Once and for all” in navy blue on the left side, while the right features “World Heavyweight Championship” along with the date and a logo for Trump Plaza. Grommets have been placed throughout to facilitate mounting, with just expected wear from age, storage and use with no damage. Originating from noted boxing manager, historian and CEO of the Boxing Hall of Fame Steve Lott, with the banner originally part of the Boxing Hall of Fame collection. An LOA will accompany this scarce fight treasure.
