Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Wayne Gretzky summed up his love for baseball best when he was quoted in one of his books "I loved baseball, probably even more than hockey, it was my passion. You know I didn't grow up dreaming I'm gonna be an NHL player but I did grow up every night thinking boy I wish I could play Major League Baseball". Well luckily for hockey fans everywhere, Wayne's wish did not come true! During the summer of 1983 Wayne Gretzky showcased his exceptional baseball talents in front of the Edmonton faithful during a charity softball game held in the "City of Champions". Wayne and the rest of his team picked up "Mr. Hockey" Gordie Howe and a few other "ringers" and took on all challengers on the ball diamond with only locker room bragging rights up for grabs. The Oilers sported their spiffy Nike softball uniforms and looked very fashionable regardless of their on-field play! We are proud to offer Wayne Gretzky's entire game worn Edmonton Oilers softball uniform consisting of his jersey, pants and stirrup socks. We are not sure why Wayne wore #17 (could have been his baseball # growing up). An 8" x 10" photo of Wayne wearing a similar #17 jersey is included. The Nike mesh jersey has been tagged in the neck with the Nike manufacturer tag and is a size Medium. The matching pants (size Large) and socks are made of polyester. The entire uniform shows light game, age and storage wear with a few marks visible. Originating from the archives of the Edmonton Oilers, an LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
