Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

With corners definitely sharper and more appealing than normally seen on an EX 5 example is the Wayne Gretzky rookie card that highlights this inviting gathering of 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee cards. Slabbed by SGC, with the company’s 60 EX 5 grade on the label, this example of card #18 looks to have been lowered by a small surface indentation that can be detected when the holder is tilted and which shows up near the middle of the left edge. Other than the less-than-perfect centering and registration, it’s difficult to find fault with the well-preserved collectible. The accompanying 395 cards, stored in older BCW-9T pages, appear similarly sharp, with random pulls and pulled stars bringing the word “crisp” to mind, along with “pack fresh”. Yes, there are some off-centered cards and some rough edges but the (large) amount of smooth edges is striking and we’d say a majority of the contributors have NM-MT-or-better characteristics. All checklists, team checklists and the team logo checklists are unmarked and we surmise that if you score here, you’ll be very pleased to have done so - a more attractive EX 5 Gretz RC is highly unlikely, while the other entries, generally, are beauties.
*To note is that one of the team cards, 259-Vancouver Canucks, is a Topps version.
