Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Presented for his fielding excellence, with the dominating slugger’s bat equally matched by his especially strong throwing arm, this 1984 Rawlings Gold Glove Award was the fifth of seven accumulated by superstar outfielder and 2001 Cooperstown inductee Dave Winfield. Battling Don Mattingly for the batting title in 1984, Winfield finished just short of his teammate, and accrued a .340 average while earning the offered award.
Standing at approx 17” in height when assembled and featuring a rectangular tiered wooden base with mounted plinth, a Rawlings Dave Winfield model gold glove sits atop the trophy, flanked by gold baseballs at each side. A plaque with matching Rawlings emblems at each end has been affixed to the base listing the particular including “1984 Rawlings Gold Glove Award” and “Presented to Dave Winfield”, with an image of Winfield in his Bronx Bombers cap affixed to the plinth. There is a label on the underside, with the desirable keepsake sporting light wear including a few surface scratches, with both the glove and balls removable. There is also a chip to the underside edge of the base over the left side. Originally offered in the Heritage Platinum Night auction of August 19-20, 2017 where it achieved approx $10,000 with buyer’s premium, a COA from the auction house will accompany, along with a catalog from said auction featuring the trophy on pages 116 and 117.
