Complete 1951-52 Parkhurst sets are always intriguing to check out and consider for many hobbyists, with several important components and aspects to tell you about here. As you can see by our title and images, key rookie cards of Maurice Richard (VG-EX 4) and Terry Sawchuk (VG 3) have been (recently) examined and assessed by PSA, with the firm returning a Gordie Howe RC and informing that card #66 did not meet minimum size requirements. (This designation does not apply to cards that are deemed trimmed or altered but is an indication that the card was cut short or narrow by the company at the time of production. Veteran hobbyists with much ’51-52 Parkie experience are aware that the Howe rookie often measures narrow). It measures narrow but is crease-free, with corners a tad superior to those of the Richard card. Obvious creases are minimal throughout the stack of raw examples, with however 38 of them affected by back damage, in most instances in the form of glue residue and paper remnants, although very little paper loss is observed. Of the cards without the condition issue, 52-The Winning Goal and 14-Geoffrion RC are a notch above the Richard, while very similar or a tad higher are rookie cards of 3-Bouchard, 15-McNeil, 19-Henry, 26-Quackenbush, 47-Lumley, 49-Mosienko, 55-Kelly, 76-Rollins and 104-Rayner, as well as the last card, 105-Conacher, and 29-Schmidt. Most of the others are crease-free and in the range of Sawchuk and Richard or, again, a little higher, with a small percentage appearing narrow or short. A small light corner crease and additional corner wear send Doug Harvey’s RC to G. The fronts of the cards previously glued display like most of the rest, with hardly a crease detected, the most noteworthy being 1-Lach, 5-Olmstead, 37-Gadsby, 48-D. Bentley, 56-Lindsay, 63-Delvecchio, 80-Flaman, 81-M. Bentley, 86-Kennedy and 94-Stanley. Overall, not hard, and actually quite pleasant to look at and deserving of thoughtful contemplation.
