Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
While the fairer sex took part in the manly practice of ice hockey during the late-19th and early-20th century, surviving items featuring those women of the rink are especially difficult to locate. A rarity in its own right, this early-1900s glass plate negative features a quartet of female hockey players. At 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” with an image area of 2” x 2 ¾”, four women are depicted in action with matching toques and skirts flowing, with early two-foot wooden boards visible along with an antique style net. “112” appears on both sides of the negative, with a crack to glass over the bottom right corner, with this not affecting the image area. As an added bonus, a small cabinet photo featuring three members of a hockey club is also included. At approx 4” x 5” with a smaller mounted oval image, the players are all wearing a matching winged “V” sweater, with the photographer impressed into the bottom of the mount. The small photo spots no issues, with corner wear to the mount and residue on the reverse from scrapbook removal.
