Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Existing for 36 years in Montreal and the first MLB team to call north of the border home, the Montreal Expos began life in 1969, and from early in franchise history, we have a baseball team-signed by the circa-1970s Expos, accompanied by a circa 1972 Quebec Carnavals team-signed baseball (the Carnavals were members of the Eastern League and served as the Expos farm team throughout the early-to-mid-1970s). First, the Expos ball is a Rawlings Official League ball with 20 signatures in mixed inks including Gene Mauch, Ron Brand, Carl Morton, Boots Day, Clyde Mashore, Ron Fairly, Claude Raymond, Howie Reed, John Strohmayer, Rusty Staub (faded), Bill Stoneman and others – with many of the signatures quite faded and general wear and toning to the ball. The Carnavals ball is an Official Eastern League example with 24 signing in mixed inks including Jim Cox, Tony Scott, Barry Foote, Dale Murray, Pat Scanlon, John Reid, Bob Arnzen, Don Schuldies, Randall Brown, Ron Piche, Larry President and others. Most of the signatures remain bold and present well, with light wear to the ball.
