Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Extremely cool is the fact that this complete 1955-56 Parkhurst set is accompanied by a rather mesmerizing wrapper that originally held four Parkies and a stick of gum, although not so cool are the notorious stains of the issue which affect the back of ten cards, including that of Jacques Plante – ouch. Unfortunate for sure, but boy, the rest of the Plante rookie card is very appealing to look at, its crease-free state with very light corner/edge wear prompting us to say otherwise EX-MT. As for the remainder of the fabulous past and then-present Canadiens and Maple Leafs lineup, it’s a mostly crease-free gathering, with VG-EX to EX cards outnumbering the VG and VG+ entries. The Rocket Richard example has a mark below Maurice’s stick and is otherwise VG+, with Beliveau (EX), The Forum (VG), Maple Leaf Gardens (VG+), Horton (VG+) and Harvey (EX+) among the more notables. A dozen-or-so have a crease and/or more visible wear in the lower red portion, including #1-Lumley (G), 33-Clancy, 57-Morenz and 58-Joliat. To note in the aforementioned group with stains on the reverse are 4-Armstrong, 29-Kennedy, 30-Bailey, 43-Geoffrion (also stained on the front) and 56-Vezina, with RCs of 18-Duff (VG+) and Durnan (VG-EX+) also noteworthy. Toning and intermittent discolored backgrounds are also to be aware of but overall, this assembly should provide enjoyment to its new owner if high grade is not hoped for. Oh, and the wrapper; it has creases and fold lines and a little hole in the upper left corner region (where it would have wrapped around the cards) but is without tears and very fun to hold and behold.
