Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Over three-quarters of Parkhurst’s 1953-54 “giant” hockey card effort is available here, with Parkies that season significantly increasing in size. Eight cards have been assessed and encapsulated by Beckett, with Hall of Famers Gordie Howe (4.5 VG-EX+), Alex Delvecchio (6 EX-MT) and 41-Marcel Pronovost (7 NEAR MINT) joined by fellow Red Wing and condition leader 43-Tony Leswick, the latter earning 7.5 NEAR MINT+ recognition from the BVG department. Leswick scored the Stanley Cup game-winning goal in overtime in Game 7 that season as the Wings edged the Canadiens. Montreal’s 19-Olmstead (4.5 VG-EX+) and 35-Curry (7 NEAR MINT) contribute to the slabbed segment, as do Toronto’s 9-Stewart (5 EXCELLENT) and New York’s 67-Hergesheimer (5.5 EXCELLENT+). The raw rest are without most of the key/star cards, including Beliveau, Worsley, Bathgate, Howell and Arbour RCs, as well as Richard, Horton, Harvey and Sawchuk, with the majority falling into the G to VG range. Wear to or rounding of the corners, and not creases, is more often than not the grade-lowering flaw, with some intermittent circular indentations from having once been held in a Parkie album and varying degrees of toning also spotted. You can also anticipate a smaller percentage of VG-EX to EX cards, with 10-Nesterenko RC and 38-Dineen RC (picturing Arbour) among them. Overall, in decent collectible condition for those not requiring high grade, with some appearing short or narrow and the other missing numbers being 5, 6-Boivin, 8, 21, 22, 28-Moore, 44, 76-Gadsby, 85 and 97.
