Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
"The Trail of the Stanley Cup" is a definite prerequisite to any important hockey library. Author Charles Coleman's complete history of hockey and Lord Stanley's trophy from 1893 to 1946 is contained within these two books. With only 1,000 copies of the special leather-bound editions of the first and second books produced and presented to important hockey figures, the books are sure to be a sought after offering. Hailing from the personal collection of 1972 Team Canada member Brian Glennie, the two books offered here were originally presented to Harry L. Price, the first chairman of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame who worked with Clarence Campbell and Frank Selke to bring the Hockey Hall of Fame to Toronto from Kingston. Volumes 1 and 2 are included here, with matching numbered found on the inside (398) with Price’s NHL presentation bookplate detached within the first volume. Missing their original slip cases, each volume shows wear to the surface, edges and corners and are generally dirty and in need of a cleaning. The pages show toning to the edges and are firmly affixed to the binding. Of note, the edges of the pages in volume 2 show some staining as well. A Glennie Family LOA will accompany the books.
