Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/27/2021
Beginning life as an original WHA franchise, the New York Raiders were not able to compete in a city that featured both the Rangers and Islanders, and as such, the club was sold and renamed the New York Golden Blades following the inaugural WHA season. The Golden Blades would only see action in 20 games before the WHA moved the franchise to the Greater Philadelphia metropolitan area township of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and renamed it the Jersey Knights. This Golden Blades jersey is a period replica, with Gerry Cosby selling examples at his Madison Square Garden store during the era. Produced with heavy durene like the originals, no tagging remains (an outline is visible along the collar), with the vintage garment measuring-out to roughly a size 46. Featuring a Golden Blades team crest in layered tackle twill, “6” is sewn to the reverse in matching material, with a blank arching felt nameplate over the upper reverse. Sporting heavy wear with marks throughout, there is also some staining on the lower front.
