Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

There were both similarities and differences in O-Pee-Chee and Topps hockey card issues over the years and such was the case in 1989-90, with an opportunity to secure boxes of each product here. As our title indicates, two OPC wax boxes feature 48 packs, with seven cards per pack, while a Topps wax box includes 36 packs, with the latter each including 13 cards and one sticker; either an All-Star or team logo. OPC’s set consists of 330 cards, with 198 comprising the Topps issue and Topps cards produced in smaller quantities. Joe Sakic, Brian Leetch and Trevor Linden rookie cards appear in both sets, with that of Theoren Fleury only printed by OPC. Box bottom cards are present on all boxes, with the OPC lineup featuring Kurri, Neely, Larmer and Yzerman on one and Lemieux, Sandstrom, Ridley and Skriko on the other, with Topps representatives being Dineen, Mullen, Gagner and Turgeon. As for condition, we spot a one-inch tear in one of the OPC box tops, near where the flap tucks inside the front panel, along with a crease across the top of the Sandstrom box bottom card, while some light dings to the underside corners of the Topps box and three creases in the box top are noteworthy but not drastic. Almost-standard wear to the box bottom corners on all three is mentioned for accuracy and like our consignor’s other boxes, all packs have been certified unopened by BBCE experts, the company’s shrink-wrap sealing each. Options and decisions await this trio’s new owner – isn’t unopened material interesting?!
