Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
The last Hall of Fame goaltender to play the game maskless, Gump Worsley guarded professional hockey creases for almost a quarter century, which included being a member of four Stanley Cup championships. This sensational original artwork hails from the 1960's and was used for a promotion by Steinberg grocery stores. During the 1965-66 season shoppers could obtain thermal plastic tumblers through the stores. Twelve different Montreal Canadiens players were featured on glasses, with both a portrait and action shot. At approx 14 ½” x 22” and on thin yellow stock, the Gumper is well depicted in his Montreal Canadiens sweater in pastels, with his signature placed at the bottom left in black, with the artist signing and dating (1965) over the bottom right. There are a few bends along with an edge tear and minor water staining. Hailing from Gump Worsley’s personal collection, the unique work will display wonderfully framed.
