Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
The king of the Original Six era and arguably the greatest ever to stand between the pipes, Terry Sawchuk was a goaltending prodigy, with his talents first recognized by the Detroit Red Wings while still 14. Earning Rookie of the Year honours in every league he competed in, The Uke won four Vezina Trophies throughout his HOF career and passed away as the NHL leader in wins and shut-outs. This unique painting of the legendary superstar was originally displayed in the Detroit Olympia’s Hall of Fame according to our consignor. At approx 15” x 19”, the oil on board work depicts the four-time Stanley Cup champion all smiles – a rarity for his hard-as-nails persona – with his Red Wings wool wonderfully reproduced. Sporting light surface wear with a few minor scratches, the painting has been set into a 17” x 21” period frame (no glass), with holes along the top and bottom for mounting along with light wear.
