Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Hockey's all-time greatest point-producer and one of the sport's all-time greatest ambassadors, Wayne Gretzky was still a teenager when he was featured on O-Pee-Chee and Topps cards for the first time, but had already proven that he could play at the pro level, putting up 110 points in the World Hockey Association. But how would he do in the NHL? Well, 51 goals while leading the league in assists was a good start in 1979-80 and just two seasons later, Wayne potted an unthinkable 92 goals and 212 points and the Oilers were rocking and rolling the hockey world! An iconic card of a hockey icon is #18 from '79-80, with this OPC version recently examined and graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Three smooth edges are attributes, while visible is a lightly touched top left corner and a tiny fray at the right corner. An apparent white speck of wear to the bottom left corner is actually a part of a miniature white print “circle”, sometimes observed with ’79-80 OPCs. The two thin horizontal blue lines on the back, (through the puck at the bottom of the cartoon), are a sign, in the eyes of some hobbyists, of a first print run, while others dismiss that idea. Not up for debate is the necessity for serious hockey card collectors to own a Gretz rookie, with this one awaiting your bid. We do not spot any scratches/flaws when examining the PSA holder.
