Noted by historian David Creighton as an "eminently moderate, cautious ... man ... and a strong Canadian nationalist", Louis Stephen St. Laurent worked as a lawyer for over 30 years which included serving as professor of law at Université Laval in 1914. St Laurent would later enter politics as Canada's 12th Prime Minister, in office from November of 1948 to June of 1957. This hard cover copy of the 1967 work by Dale Thomson entitled Louis St Laurent: Canadian has been signed and annotated by the former leader. Signed on the title page in blue ballpoint and dated July 3, 1971, the inscription is personalized to US Admiral Hewlett Thebaud on the occasion of his 50th wedding anniversary. A calling card handwritten by Mrs St Laurent mentioning her and her husband's apology in being unable to attend the anniversary has been affixed to the first page of the book. The St Laurent signature displays beautifully with no issues, with light wear to the book itself which includes toning to the interior pages and a minor bend along the spine.
