Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

The legion of collectors with an affinity for good old Shirriff coins may well be fascinated by our consignor’s ingenuity in constructing the wooden plaques here which marvelously display the discs. The heavy plaques are one-inch thick, with holes on the reverse which allow one to poke individual coins out of their holding area if so desired. Well, most/some of them, as some seem rather securely in place (but not glued) and we did not attempt each and every one. Random removed coins are in fine shape with no issues, with the 120-coin 1961-62 set boasting chip-free condition, with only light, even toning in the backgrounds and at times standard light warping of the thin cardboard inserts – definitely nothing unsightly. There are two extra team sets (with plaques) of the Montreal Canadiens, with the condition sensitive ’62-63 metal 60-coin set also displaying rather impressively. The Habs and Maple Leafs have their own “board”, with the last two of 22 Leafs joining the All-Stars and trophy winners on a third. Near mint examples contribute, with an odd light scratch detected here and there but no low grade entries are present, with a side-to-side scratch through the middle of Frank Mahovlich to note. Offering several possibilities – your guests/clients will, like you, be wowed - are these striking, likely unique displays featuring many of the stars who helped write part of the story of the Original Six era – superb!
