Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Comprised of mostly NM, NM+ and NM-MT cards is this 1980-81 O-Pee-Chee offering, although some of the keys to the set are either missing (Mark Messier RC) or are condition exceptions. A case in point is the Ray Bourque rookie that is miscut, with a one-inch diagonal mark below Ray’s left glove also noticeable on the back; not really a crease but to be aware of. The second-year Wayne Gretzky card is off-centered with two corners touches and two corner dings sending it to EX or VG-EX+. We also spot a half-inch hairline crease in Wayne’s 87-All-Star card but on a more positive note, the Oilers Team Leaders card with Gretz is NM-MT. MINT cards are to be discovered while others make it to “only” EX-MT (Gartner RC). All checklists and team checklists are unmarked with the exception of the #396 checklist (just six boxes filled-in in pencil), with hardly a crease spotted throughout. There are then three (24-card) sets of OPC Super Photos, the 5” by 7” card stock productions loaded with stars of the day. One set includes an EX-MT Gretzky and other similar cards with intermittent corner touches, while another has cards all with a lower left corner ding. A couple of two-inch vertical creases are spotted in the Gretzky of the third set, with the rest EX-MT or better. There are 19 extras with duplicates and triplicates present and two display boxes are intact with light wear. Four commons (#s 138, 225, 268, 289) join the Messier RC on the regular set’s need’em list.
