Wayne Gretzky, his Edmonton Oilers teammates and some notable rookie cards highlight this duo of O-Pee-Chee sets, with minimal handling to report and dozens of NM-MT-or-better contributors to come upon. From the 1981-82 set are NM-or-better rookie cards of Coffey, Savard, Moog, Murphy and Ciccarelli, with centering not always bang-on and a few condition exceptions among the key cards. Gretzky’s regular (#106) card is VG+ due to a small crease and two corner dings, with #1-Bourque (VG+) exhibiting a subtle one-inch crease. Two right edge notches lower an otherwise NM Kurri rookie, with blue ink transfer observed on a Stastny RC. One checklist is partially marked, with a big scrape in another and standard OPC centering that varies coming into play. Forty wrappers, stored flat for years, are swell bonuses (a few intermittent edge tears are spotted), while a rough, flattened display box has come apart at the corners and is missing a couple of pieces, with “869” written in pen on the box top. The ’82-83 complete set, also a 396-card issue, is also led by Gretzky (EX-MT) and friends, while the rookie card contingent is headlined by Fuhr (EX-MT), Francis (NM) and Hawerchuk (VG-EX). Multiple “specials” of Wayne are in both sets, with the Edmonton star’s record 92 goals and first 200+ point season showing up in the statistics section of his ’82-83 card. We would say that NM-MT-or-better cards show up more often in the ’82-83 assembly – you’ll have fun zeroing in on them.
