Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Celebrating the man responsible for arguably the greatest trophy in all of sport, we have a pair of spectacular 1902 silver and bronze presentation medals that "Commemorate the Celebration of Guild Merchant" (Lord Stanley, the Earl of Derby) as appears on the obverse of each medal, along with the beautifully intricate Derby Coat of Arms. The reverse of each features the highly detailed raised images of Lord Stanley and his wife, with "The Earl of Derby K.G. Guild Mayor of Preston and the Countess of Derby" in small raised letters encompassing. Both measure 2" in diameter and are 1/8” thick. The maker "Spink & Son" appears in small raised letters below the cameo portraits on each coin. The silver medal is accompanied by its original small Preston Guild Merchant cardboard box and sports light overall surface wear with a few scratches visible, with a bit heavier wear to the bronze medal with the surface darkening somewhat.
