Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

O-Pee-Chee cards from the 1980s highlight this group, with an ’82-83 (396-card) set leading chronologically and evidence of rubber bands once having been around each segment of 100, affecting about a dozen cards the way elastics do. Near mint-or-better examples look to be the norm, with however a Grant Fuhr RC (EX+) and 106-Gretzky (EX-MT+) featuring centering issues but rookies of Francis (NM) and Hawerchuk (EX-MT) better in that respect. Ditto for the rubber band situation in a near set from ’83-84, with 25-Coffey, 29-Gretzky and 268-Lindbergh RC the missing cards and a beat-up filler representing the key 23-Messier/Gretzky entry. Near mint to MINT cards, along with some intermittent exceptions, are to discover among the rest. Still in its original box is a (264-card) ’87-88 OPC factory set, with numerous touched/lightly dinged (upper left) corners from removing and putting back in the box, but with pleasing centering as an attribute. An EX-MT Luc Robitaille RC and a slight curvature in the cards are noteworthy. Gretzky holding up his new L.A. Kings sweater (NM (OC)) and an EX-MT Brett Hull RC headline an ’88-89 Topps (198-card) set (1-Lemieux has corner dings, with most others NM-or-better), with Upper Deck’s inaugural ’90-91 (1-400) set (Jagr RC and others) also in the mix. Completing is a box of ’72 Team Canada cards, also from the early-‘90s and with one pack opened and the other 23 unopened.
