Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Highlighted by a rarely seen postcard of the historic 1908-09 Haileybury Comets – one of the sport’s first professional clubs with players featured in the C56 hockey card set, we have a collection of oddball postcards and smaller postcard-sized original photos totaling 30 and spanning from the early-1900s to approx the 1930s (a few may be later). Featuring European team postcards (12, including a fold-out postcard group), female clubs (2, both photos), and individual/multi-player images (5, with 4 postcards and 1 photo), there is also an oversized postcard from the early-1900s with the players names handwritten (3 ½” x 9”), an intact College Saint-Alexandre postcard booklet (15 postcards) with a postcard of the hockey team in game-action, and an original Tuck’s Post Cards “Winter Sports” envelope that originally contained six postcards including a hockey example. The remaining items include two postcards of hockey buildings and six vintage team photos (these are all approx 4” x 6” give or take). The 1908-09 Haileybury postcard has been trimmed down to the image with the players all showing, with text and staining over the reverse (currently approx 3” x 3 ½”). The remaining postcards and photos vary in condition, with the majority showing light to moderate handling wear and no obtrusive damage to the group (one photo is heavily creased, while an additional two have a clipped corner).
