Desirable rarities featuring the Montreal Canadiens at the apex of their powers; on the eve of the NHL’s greatest Stanley Cup dynasty, we offer an assemblage of seldom-seen Habs postcards from the early-to-mid-1950s totaling 22 and originating from three different issues. First, we have 17 black and white blank-backed postcards from the 1954-55 NHL season – with examples from this issues rarely surfacing, including HOFers Richard (corner wear), Plante (a few small corner creases- rookie era), Beliveau (a few small creases along with a faint blemish - rookie era), Harvey (large creases), Geoffrion (surface wrinkle), Johnson, Olmstead and Butch Bouchard, along with Mosdel, Mackay, Meger, MacPherson, Mazur, Curry, LeClair, St Laurent (numerous creases) and Eddie Litzenberger (large crease). The additional postcards including a matching oversized pair (4 ½” x 6 ½”) featuring the Rocket (with “Monsieur 400”) and Geoffrion, along with a matching trio that feature the Rocket, Beliveau and Geoffrion.
The 17 matching postcards show moderate wear to the group which includes just minor corner wear unless otherwise noted, with the two oversized postcards both showing light corner and edge wear. Lastly, the matching three postcards include light corner and edge wear to the Richard, spotting and surface indentation lines to the Geoffrion and a few large creases to the Beliveau.
