Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Managing his first hockey club at the ripe old age of 14, Frank J Selke led teams to Memorial Cup championships in the 1910s and 1920s before considerable time in the NHL with both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens. Selke would be a member of nine Stanley Cup championships, with enshrinement to the HOF in 1960. This original 1910s postcard of the Berlin Union Jacks features a young Selke as manager (Selke managed the OHA club from 1912 to 1915), with the postcard accompanied by a handwritten letter dated “July 15, 1957” addressed to Selke mentioning the postcard. At approx 3 ¼” x 5 ½”, the full club is pictured with Selke seated dead center, with the postal reverse unused. There is surface wear visible including a few small blemishes, with a few corner creases present and staining/discolouration to the reverse. The letter is 8” x 10” with the text in ballpoint, with just expected fold lines and handling wear.
