Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
It’s always a treat to check out and describe good looking 1954-55 Topps hockey cards, their popping colors “a joy to behold” like we like to say, with summarizing this assembly however a definite challenge – you’ll have to pay close attention. All but two cards are encapsulated, with four grading companies involved and PSA (31) and KSA (24) leading numbers-wise. We’ll start with the PSA segment, with an EX 5 Gordie Howe entry accompanied by other keys slabbed EX-MT 6; 10-Worsley, 39-Delvecchio, 51-Lindsay, 58-Sawchuk and 60-Schmidt. Eight other PSA 6s include a 12-Hollingworth RC in a holder mislabeled 35-McKenney(!). The actual McKenney (rookie) card is a NM-MT 8 (OC) and joined by four NM-MT 8 condition leaders; 16-Skov, 24-Prystai, 27-Pronovost and 43-McIntyre. There are nine at NM 7, including 5-Kelly, 11-Bathgate and 41-Stanley, with 56-Laprade (EX-MT+ 6.5) and EX 5s of 20-Gadsby and 54-Mosienko completing the PSA representatives. Tops among KSA-slabbed cards are 1-Gamble (8.5 NMM+), 9-Woit (8 NMM) and three at 7.5 NM+; 34-Pavelich, 37-J. Henry and 40-L. Wilson. Half a dozen 7 NMs (18-Mohns RC, 32-C. Henry RC, 49-Quackenbush), (11) at 6.5 ENM+ (3-Howell plus mostly commons), one 6 NMM (25-Flaman) and one EX 5 (42-Sullivan) complete the KSA portion. There are two in SGC holders (21-Toppazzini (EX/NM 6), 22-Hergesheimer (NM 7)) and one Beckett rep; 30-Martin (7 NM), while raw cards are 26-Rollins (EX+) and 48-Sandford (VG-EX). Phew – time now for YOU to cipher!
*It should be noted that overall, the holders themselves have been very well cared for; only a small percentage have obvious scratches.
