Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

The sport’s greatest locale, the city of Montreal is steeped in rich hockey history, with a number of long deceased and lamented hockey clubs that once dominated gone but not forgotten, including the Victoria, Shamrocks, Wanderers and Maroons. This Rice Studios presentation size cabinet photo of the 1925-26 Stanley Cup champion Montreal Maroons is just the second example we have ever handled. At 15” x 20” with the mount slightly larger, the full team is pictured in cameo images during just their second NHL season, including HOF members Clint Benedict, Nels Stewart, Babe Siebert, Punch Broadbent and manager Eddie Gerard. The Stanley Cup is also depicted front and center, with “World’s Champions 1925-6” at the base. The 95 year-old image itself is flawless, with just a few light scratches visible along with some silvering, with the image affixed to a dark grey mount – with this probably done sometime shortly after the image was produced. The mount sports a bit of edge and corner wear, with tape added along the top and bottom of the reverse, with this not affecting the image whatsoever.
