An all-1980s stash of Wayne Gretzky cards and stickers here features considerable book value and offers numerous possibilities. No Gretz rookie cards but no material from the 1990s either. There’s plenty of second-year action from ’80-81, with Wayne’s regular (#250) O-Pee-Chee issue contributing four times, led by a well-centered EX+ example which is joined by a similar but off-centered entry, along with EX and VG cards. Also from ’80-81 are three 87-All-Star representatives, five 182-Oilers Team Leaders/checklist cards (four are unmarked), four league leaders (162 x 2, 163 x 2) and (16) 3-Record Breaker cards, with the latter featuring notorious bad centering and in fact all but four being miscut. Topps issues from ’80-81 are unscratched and include 3-Record Breaker (2), 87-All-Star and 182-Oilers Team Leaders/checklist (2)(unmarked). Here are the totals for the ensuing seasons: ’81-82 OPC #106 (3)(one is significantly miscut on the back), 125-Super Action (10) and five various “specials.” ’81-82 Topps #16 (5) and two leader cards. The remainder are OPCs and include ’82-83 #106 (3), 1-Record Breaker (2), 99-Oilers Team Leaders, 107-In Action (7) and (27) various leader cards (one also featuring Michel Goulet is autographed by Goulet). ...’83-84 #29 (1), 23-Highlight (with Messier)(3) and 35 various specials. ...’84-85 #243 (4) and (32) various All-Star, Record Breaker, Trophy Winner and Leader cards. Condition generally is EX-MT or better, with intermittent lower entries (EX, EX+, VG-EX) but they’re the minority and hardly a crease is spotted. Actually, leading off the binder are three pages (over two dozen) of early Gretzky stickers, most of them OPC productions, some of which surely have been missed over the years. From when Wayne was really turning heads and priming, accomplishing his famous scoring feats, this hoard is loaded with re-sale opportunities.
