Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Many collectors of pre-war material, as well as postcard enthusiasts, have always been fascinated and charmed by the black and white postcards that were supplements to two boys’ magazines in Britain in 1936. This gathering, one of the best currently on record at PSA, originally came with “The Champion” publication and boasts a lineup that includes some of hockey’s all-time greats, offered in very pleasing condition. Leading the way are EX 5 postcards of legendary Ottawa and Toronto defenceman King Clancy and goal-scoring great Bill Cook of the Rangers, with fellow prolific scorers Charlie Conacher and Aurele Joliat headlining a group of seven at VG-EX 4. The almost all-Hall of Fame contingent of 4s also features Bun Cook, Hooley Smith, Sweeney Schriner and Marty Barry, as well as Pep Kelly, while Chicago’s Mush March, at GOOD 2, concludes the offering. The sum of the stirring images comes up as 4.28 in all three columns of the PSA Set Registry; GPA Weighted, GPA with Top Pop Bonuses and Set Rating...and ranks it third on the Current Finest list for “Champion” sets. If you’ve been tempted to get involved with them in the past but have not, this is a marvelous opportunity to score a splendid encapsulated booty.
