Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Our consignor's formidable collection of old unopened hockey card wax packs includes a double dose of O-Pee-Chee 2nd Series entries from 1971-72 - welcome medicine for those longing/itching for a chance at scarce beauties. Beauty in the eyes of many is OPC's '71-72 card design, with rookie cards of Guy Lafleur and Marcel Dionne leading the 132-card 2nd Series lineup, with colorful All-Star cards (Orr, Esposito, Hull, Plante++) and Trophy Winner cards (Orr, Espo, Perreault, etc.) also contributing and OPC commemorating the end of an era with special Gordie Howe and Jean Beliveau retirement cards - nice. The colorful wrapper informs of eight cards and bubble gum for 10 cents, with the "extra" being a hockey booklet that told the story, in comic book-style, of one of two dozen NHLers. Kids were still playing with and sorting their cards when the Bruins took out the Rangers in six games for their second Stanley Cup triumph in three years, with Orr again winning the Conn Smythe Trophy. The GAI holder, informing of a NM-MT 8 grade, has a few small subtle light surface scratches, really only detectable upon close inspection. It looks to us like a green-background card of Chicago's Bryan Campbell is showing through the bottom.
