Available in Topps packs the same season as Stan Mikita won his first of four NHL scoring titles, Stan’s card #36 is among the highlights of this 1963-64 assembly. Its PSA NM 7 assessment is the same as a card of teammate Ab McDonald, while Ed Westfall’s rookie card received a mark of 8.5 NMM+ from KSA. The raw rest are headlined by Mikita’s teammate Bobby Hull (who Stan edged by two points for the scoring championship), with however the Hull card exhibiting toning, slight warping, a small glue stain on the front (Glenn Hall action region) and some subtle staining on the back, suggesting being previously affixed. The albeit crease-free example is joined by a very alluring, rather uniform condition stack of cards, many of which mirror the slabbed Mikita. We would say NM-or-better make may well account for a majority – have fun zeroing-in on the potential NM 7s, NM-MT 8s and even MINT 9s. Be aware though of the following: four cards (63-Ratelle, three commons) have subtle evidence of a coin having been lightly rubbed on the back, while five have small stains on the reverse. The (unmarked) checklist is also a condition exception, with light side-to-side creasing in the middle only visible when checking out the back. The key RC, that of 2-Ed Johnston, has a couple of fuzzy corners which send it to EX-MT, with 1-Milt Schmidt similarly EX-MT. Rangers’ goalies 45-Plante (NM) and 46-Villemure RC (EX-MT+) are also notable.
