Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Four interesting (and educational!) and well-identified binders to flip through here and two stacks of classic Batman cards offer numerous possibilities, with less-often-seen Canadian issues among them. The history of guns and pistols is detailed in a 1953 Parkhurst set of 50 cards, while the same firm was/is responsible for a scarce 1959 set picturing fish, also a 50-card effort. The former has English explanations on the backs while the fish info is in both English and French. Topps’ colorful and impressive Flags of the World (80-card) set from 1956 displays marvelously in 8-pocket pages, as do a complete set of 1961 Jell-O/Hostess plastic coins picturing airplanes through the years. They’re in coin holders and 20-pocket pages, with only a few soiled backs and no edge chips. We spot some wear and rounded corners but not many obvious creases in the Guns and Pistols set, with less corner wear and hardly a crease in the condition sensitive fish cards. Ditto for the charming flag cards; a majority appear EX-or-better and constitute wonderful eye candy. Meanwhile, the Batman cards are a mix of O-Pee-Chee and Topps versions, with six of the latter helping to complete the 55-card mostly OPC Black Bat assembly and an even dozen Topps cards among the 44 Red Bat representatives, including the first and last cards. Again, handled but certainly not abused cards abound, with a dozen creased entries in the former set and a half dozen in the latter. One or two low grade fillers are spotted in each; expect mostly VG, VG+ and VG-EX cards and a swell array of colors/artwork.
