Drafted by Philadelphia in 1981 and traded to Toronto the following year for Darryl Sittler, Rich Costello spend most of his career in the AHL, and later played professionally in Finland, Germany and Switzerland. From his third season in the AHL with St Catharines, we have a Saints jersey worn by the Massachusetts native in 1985-86. Sporting the design of the parent club Toronto Maple Leafs, the jersey was recycled from the 1984-85 set and shows evidence of a former nameplate matching the current example in size (Costello also wore the #14 in 1984-85). No labeling remains, with the jersey measuring-out to roughly a size 52. A CCM crest with trademark “R” resides on the reverse hem, with the AHL 50th anniversary crest on the lower reverse. Featuring the Leafs team crest with embroidered skating saint, “14” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in layered twill, with matching alternate crests over each shoulder. A skate-lace fight strap also remains intact. Showing heavy use with numerous marks present as well as wear to the material, there is a team repair near the right cuff, with a bit of spot staining on the reverse.
