Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
Instrumental in the creation of the NHL, George Kennedy began as a wrestler and promoter, and is best known as the owner of the Montreal Canadiens from 1910 to 1921. Kennedy acted as general manager of the Habs during his tenure while also listed at times as the head coach. Originally displayed at the hallowed Montreal Forum and most likely later at the Bell Centre, we have a framed painting of the Spanish Flu victim by noted Habs artist Michel Lapensee. At approx 11” x 15” and executed in water colours, Kennedy is beautifully depicted, with his name and tenure listed on the matte. The artist has signed, adding the date (1992), with the work double-matted and framed to approx 19” x 23”. The unique painting is flawless, with some damage to the text on the matte and wear to the frame. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
