Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club’s comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
Spending considerable time in the QSHL with the Montreal Royals before advancing to the NHL and the Montreal Canadiens, Buddy O’Connor was the first player in history to win the Hart Memorial Trophy and Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in the same season. The Montreal native was also a Stanley Cup champion twice in three years. Direct from the archives of the Montreal Canadiens and most likely displayed originally at the Montreal Forum and possibly later at the Bell Centre, we have a Hall of Fame honoured member framed photo of the 1948 Canadian Athlete of the Year. At 7 ½” x 10” (exposed), the image is a modern print, with O’Connor depicted in game-action, with much of the background muted, with this done for editorial purposes on the original print. A gold-coloured name plaque listing his induction year (1988) has been inserted beneath, double-matted and framed to 16” x 16”, with some light wear to the frame to note. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
