Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club’s comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
The last NHL goaltender to captain his squad, Bill Durnan produced arguably the shortest and most dominant career in history, winning six Vezina trophies while also receiving six NHL First All-Star Team selections, all within just seven seasons. Direct from the archives of the Montreal Canadiens and most likely displayed originally at the Montreal Forum and possibly later at the Bell Centre, we have a Hall of Fame honoured member framed photo of the two-time Stanley Cup champion. At 8” x 9 ¾” (exposed), the well-known image is a modern print (originally used for the 1945-54 Quaker Oats Photo release), with Durnan pictured in feverish game-action. A gold-coloured name plaque listing his induction year (1964) has been inserted beneath, double-matted and framed to 16” x 16”, with some light wear to the frame to note. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
