Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Seeing action in the late-1960s/early-1970s with single seasons in the AHL, CHL and IHL, Ed "Rusty" Patenaude was an original member of the Alberta Oilers in 1972-73, and spent five seasons with the club before a lone final WHA season with the Indianapolis Racers, in 1977-78. This Oilers jersey was worn by the Williams Lake native during the 1973-74 WHA season. With no tagging present - common for this particular set – the durene jersey was produced by Western Athletic (for the first two seasons), and measures-out to roughly a size 46. Featuring the classic Oilers team crest with chain-stitched detailing, “17” is sewn to the shoulders and verso in layered tackle twill, with a garter-style fight strap utilized. The affixed nameplate sports “Rusty Patenaude” chain-stitched, with this the only season the club featured full names over the reverse.
It should be noted that the jersey has been hemmed-up, with some reinforcement stitching added to the armpits, nameplate and reverse numbers. Great game-use is exhibited, with wear to the material throughout including a few dark marks to the front and sleeves, with light pilling in areas. Team repairs are also present, with examples on the front (1), reverse (2) and sleeves (3). The team crest has also been signed in black ink by Bill Hunter (Edmonton Oilers' head coach during the 1972–73, 1974–75, and 1975–76 seasons, Hunter was also co-owner & general manager of the team).
