Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
The smooth, smooth edges of this attractive Wayne Gretzky 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee rookie card are considerably more striking than the top-to-bottom off-centeredness that led to the (OC) qualifier, with the card’s attributes recently earning it NM-MT 8 recognition at PSA. Two thin blue lines on the back, through the puck in the cartoon, the latter mentioning Gretzky’s debut in the WHA at age 17, are believed to be (by some hobbyists) an indication of an early print run. A lightly touched upper left corner is observed, along with minuscule black marks in the upper white “stripe” where “OILERS” is printed. If you have yet to land a high grade rookie card of the most dominant performer the sport of hockey has ever seen, (or want to treat yourself to another!), this stirring example, (in a scratch-free PSA holder), merits ample consideration.
