Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

You’d likely like to know right from the get-go that the Wayne Gretzky rookie card is not present here, so now that that’s taken care of, we’ll go chronologically, starting with a near set of 1975-76 O-Pee-Chee cards. Like the other contributors, they’re housed in a binder, with #258-Lemaire not present, the same as the “traded” variations, while a (multi-creased) 10-cent wrapper complements. Varying degrees of corner wear and some intermittent toned edges are to report, with VG+ and VG-EX cards accounting for the majority with VG and EX examples also observed. A complete set from ’77-78, (the first year of the 15-cent pack era), is joined by a tear-free wrapper and a 22-card glossy insert set, with the actual cards appearing to be dominated by (and averaging) EX, with unmarked checklists and team checklists to mention. From ’78-79 are a wrapper and a neat (flattened) display box, the latter with “extras” written in pen on the (not-popped) die-cut boxtop. Mike Bossy’s rookie headlines the complete ’78-79 set, with two rough edges to be aware – otherwise EX-MT – with Taylor (EX), Federko (EX), Wilson (MC) and Duguay (MC) RCs all exhibiting something that holds them back, with the rest looking to average EX. Unmarked checklists and team checklists are an attribute and ditto for (most of) the same in the (395) blue-bordered ’79-80 cards. Corner touches and varying degrees of wear are observed though – we’d say VG-EX to EX for the majority, although a hairline crease is spotted in 185-Hull. The Oilers team logo/checklist is VG+, while a side-to-side crease and a couple of blackened boxes lower the Jets team card, with a crease in each of the three checklists. An attractive wrapper without tears, this time from a 20-cent pack, is a nifty bonus. Lots of possibilities await the new owner.
