Sealing his fate with the Montreal Canadiens after allowing nine goals before being removed from the infamous contest, Patrick Roy donned the sacred flannel of the Montreal Canadiens for the final time on Dec 2, 1995, an embarrassing 11-1 loss at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings. Vowing to team president Ronald Corey that his days with the Habs were finished, Roy was dealt to the Colorado Avalanche along with Mike Keane in exchange for Jocelyn Thibault, Andrei Kovalenko, and Martin Rucinsky. This desirable photo-matched Colorado Avalanche jersey was donned by St Patrick during his historic first return back to Montreal after departing Quebec for Denver, on March 5, 1997 (this was the only Aves game in Montreal in 1996-97). The Avalanche crushed the Canadiens upon Roy’s return, 7-3, with the superstar making 34 saves. Starter and Center Ice labeling is affixed to the collar, with embroidered Starter and NHL logos over the reverse hem. Featuring a large and partially embroidered Aves team crest, the V-neck sweater has been accented with “33” in textured tackle twill sewn to the sleeves and verso, with matching alternate Bigfoot crests over each shoulder. The dual-clasp fight strap is also intact, with a size code swatch residing on the inside hem. Game-use includes a faint stick mark to the team crest along with a burn mark over the right elbow. Getty Image #82543767 (photo identified as 1996-97 season vs Canadiens in Montreal) has been matched to the black marks on the right area of the team crest in the lower portion of the white material, and to the two black marks on the right edge of the team crest. The same marks are also showing on Getty Images #82543760 and #82543766.
