The first of four consecutive Olympic defeats for the powerful US women’s team at the hands of their perennial rivals, the 2002 Games features the Americans and Canadians again meeting in the gold medal match, with the latter defeating the former 3-2 in a tightly-contested final. The US team are also the current Olympic women’s champions. From the 2002 Olympic tournament, we have a collection of four team-signed USA jerseys worn by stars Krissy Wendell, Natalie Darwitz, Katie King and Tara Mounsey. The King and Mounsey jerseys hail from the Olympic tournament, while the Darwitz and Wendell jerseys originate from one of the 8 pre-tournaments games, specifically, the Oct 20, 2001 exhibition against Team Canada at the E Center in Salt Lake City (won by the US 4-1). The pre-tournament jerseys are solid white, the Olympic tournament jerseys navy blue, with all four matching in style and construction with the only difference being the small 911 crests added to the right shoulders on the Darwitz and Wendell jerseys. Nike, USA Hockey and IIHF labels are affixed to the collars with sizing, with IIHF patches sewn to the reverse hems. Featuring tackle twill USA team crests with sleeve and verso numbers in matching material, alternate crests also grace each shoulder. The quartet all show light game-use with no obtrusive wear or damage, with each front team-signed by what appears to be the same matching 20 members including Chu, Kennedy, Bye, Potter, Dunn, Bailey, Kilbourne, King, Looney, Ruggiero, Mounsey, Wall, Darwitz, Wendell, Tueting, DeCosta, Baker, Mleczko and two others. Most of the signatures display well, with some slightly faded or light from a weak writing instrument.
