Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
The desirable rookie cards of two brothers who did more for the development of pro hockey in its first half century than any others headline this offering, with Lester Patrick's C56 card encapsulated by SGC and graded POOR 1 due to multiple creases. Similar is Frank Patrick's card, the first numbered in the first hockey card set, with paper loss on the reverse additionally to report. Pictured in their Renfrew Creamery Kings sweaters, the Patricks spent only the 1909-10 season with Renfrew and were with Nelson, British Columbia in 1910-11 before starting up the Pacific Coast Hockey Association the following season. Also in a Renfrew uniform here and one of three C55 cards is goaltender Bert Lindsay (father of Ted), while Hall of Famer Jimmy Gardner and Ottawa's Bruce Ridpath complete the similarly low grade trio, with the Lindsay example displaying the best. The 1911-12 C57 issue is represented by a roughed-up card of Bobby Rowe, with red coloring added, while two of four lacrosse cards from the period feature well-known hockey men. Hockey Hall of Fame builders Tommy Gorman (F with a tad of paper loss on the reverse) and Joe Cattarinich (F with creasing and corner/edge wear) are joined by cards of #48-C McKerrow and 76-C.L. Querrie (miscut on the back).
