More intriguing groups of cards with our consignor’s autograph “twist” are offered for your consideration here, with the signed rookie cards in our title indeed headlining. Ray Bourque’s classic penmanship appears on an attractive crease-free EX-MT rookie, with Mike Gartner’s solid autograph and Hall of Fame induction year in blue ink on a VG+ RC, also from 1980-81 and accompanied by a host of conditions and a cast of 20 other signers, including Rick Vaive (RC) and Brad Marsh (RC). A Mark Messier RC is miscut with corner and edge wear, while the second-year Wayne Gretzky is VG. Mostly nicer cards are to come upon in the ’80-81 binder, with just two cards required to complete the ensemble; 144-McKegney RC and 179-Boschman RC. The late great Dale Hawerchuk and his (EX) rookie card signed in black ink highlight a group of ’82-83s, with 17 other cards autographed and 11 cards not present. An EX-MT Grant Fuhr RC and NM Ron Francis and Joe Mullen rookies are notable, with the rest looking similarly quite sharp. Ditto for a near set (393/396) from ’83-84, although 9-pocket pages can sometimes hide things; we spot a crease in the Pelle Lindbergh RC, while dinged corners are observed on Scott Stevens’ boldly-signed rookie which is joined by 14 others with sigs, including a Steve Larmer RC. As for the signing supporting cast, the following players show up twice or three times: Marsh, Mark Napier, Wilf Paiement, Dan Bouchard, Pat Hughes, Bill Derlago, Greg Terrion, Rick St. Croix, Bob Lorimer, Glen Sharpley, George Ferguson and John Barrett, while appearing once each are Paul Coffey, Ron Ellis, Jim Schoenfeld, Rob Ramage, Andre Savard, Stan Jonathan, Dave Burrows, Dave Hutchison, Jack Valiquette, Stan Weir, Mike Krushelnyski and Rod Schutt. Phew, check out the images – this is yet another dandy gathering. *Detected afterwards, a small very subtle surface wrinkle drops the Fuhr rookie to VG+.
