Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

The rookie card of hockey icon Bobby Orr is always the focal point of a 1966-67 Topps set, with the one here featuring pleasing centering and no apparent creases and receiving a 3.5 VERY GOOD+ assessment from Beckett. A top-to-bottom scratch through Bobby’s face is mentioned for accuracy but is not detectable when viewing famous card #35 straight-on and only when the card/holder is tilted at an angle. The accompanying cards are this particular consignor’s standard mixed bag, with a majority of lower grade cards joined by intermittent more attractive examples. A dozen (mostly commons) are crease-free with some original gloss and in the VG-EX to EX range, while a crease or creases and varying degrees of corner wear affect the rest, with some three dozen roughed-up P examples, including 1-Blake and both Howes. F and G cards and, to a lesser extent, VG representatives comprise the remainder. Very little back damage is an attribute, (72-Cournoyer and 112-Hull are exceptions), with 62-Mikita, 73-Beliveau, 80-Horton and 119-Red Wings Team displaying the nicest among the star/key cards. An autographed rookie card of Pete Mahovlich and one signed by Dennis Hull and two marked checklists are also noteworthy, as are some cards with wax on the front. Score Orr and company and you’ll get to check them all out.
