Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
One of the more fascinating stashes of Quaker Oats pictures involving the Maple Leafs that we recall handling, this one has of course numerous scarce components to tell you about. There is duplication present but it doesn’t only consist of the more common photos as one might imagine, with duplicates and triplicates of some of the scarcer examples also present, although the extras tend not to be as nice condition-wise. For starters, there is a set of the four action photos featuring the Maple Leafs and Canadiens, plus a set in low grade and then two extras, with Syl Apps appearing with the Stanley Cup...five times! Again, one nicer example and four lesser, with Ted Kennedy’s pic with the Stanley Cup also present, along with two Leafs team photos (one superior to a low grade entry) and one of Max Bentley’s scarce locker room scene. You can tell that our consignor was a goalie fan (they’re all at the front of a big binder!), with the scarce/valuable photos of (McCool (3), Bastien (2), Bell) joined by the likes of Broda (10), Lumley and Rollins (4). Notable among scarce skaters are Baldwin (2), Hill (2), Horton, Maloney, Morris, Nesterenko, Pratt (5), Schriner, Stewart – you surely are getting the picture. You’ll actually be getting upwards of 200, with duplicate images sometimes appearing in “regular” and blue tint versions. We can’t ascertain a complete master Leafs set, but a commendable effort, for sure. A nifty complement is a newspaper add for Quaker Oats that congratulates and shows the ’47-48 Leafs championship squad.
