Spending parts of his last two NHL seasons in Philadelphia including his final swan song campaign in 1996-97, Dale Hawerchuk helped the Flyers advance to the promise land, vying for Lord Stanley’s elusive trophy against a strong Detroit Red Wings squad. From the final season of his HOF career, we have gloves, uniform pants, elbow pads and an equipment bag attributed to his time in Philadelphia in 1996-97, with the gloves and pants likely the last worn by the superstar in the NHL. First, the gloves are Sher-wood models with “18” handwritten, with this the type of model worn by Dale in the 1997 playoffs and Stanley Cup Finals, while the uniform pants are Tackla models in solid black with NHL crest affixed, with these also the type worn in the 1997 playoffs and Stanley Cup Finals, as well as the regular season. Next, the Equipment bag is in Flyers colours with screened logos on each side, with a label over the top from Gerry Cosby. Lastly, the elbow pads which are also attributed to the 1996-97 season are Jofa JPD models with “18” handwritten. Hailing from his personal collection, an LOA from the Hawerchuk family will accompany.
The gloves show good use with mark and wear as well as rubbing to the leather in spots, with a hole to the right palm and heavy pilling. The pants show moderate game-use with marks and scrapes to the exterior material, with heavier wear and soiling to the elbow pads. The equipment bag also shows very heavy throughout, with the possibility that it was recycled to Hawerchuk, as more than two seasons of wear appears present.
