Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
One of only ten players to dress for each and every single contest along with Wayne Gretzky, Darryl Sittler and Bob Gainey, Dale Hawerchuk would make his first appearance at the IIHF World Championships in 1982, and contribute 4 points towards the Canadians third-place finish. Hailing from his personal collection, we have the bronze medal presented to the superstar, accompanied by a team-signed Team Canada 1982 WC pennant. First, the medal is 2 3/4" in circumference with attached blue and gold ribbon, with "World Championship" appearing in raised letters circling the perimeter on the obverse along with two generic players in action, with a painted globe encompassed by "International Ice Hockey Federation" on the reverse. The pennant is 30" in length with screened graphics, with 18 signing in ballpoint including Hawerchuk, along with Gretzky, Lowe, Sittler, Propp, Barber, Green, Millen, Smith, Reinhart, Napier and others. An LOA from the Hawerchuk family will accompany.
There is light wear to the ribbon and medal, with a few small marks on the obverse, and a small blemish over the bottom left section of the globe on the reverse. The pennant shows heavy toning along with a few creases and pinholes, with the signatures all showing degrees of fading, with the Gretzky example quite worn.
