Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
A veteran of 15 NHL seasons, Jeff Norton is a University of Michigan alumnus, dressing for eight different clubs throughout his career while also representing the US at the World Championships and Winter Olympics. From just their third season, we have a photo-matched San Jose Sharks jersey worn by Norton during the 1993-94 playoffs. A CCM label and size “52” fly tag are affixed to the collar, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests on the reverse hem. Styled with the Sharks team crest in use from inception until 1998-99, “8” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with alternate patches over each shoulder. The 1995 All-Star Game crest is situated just above the right breast, and we should note that the crest was added to the jersey in anticipation of the San Jose All-Star Game, with the jerseys originally kept to be worn during the first half of the 1994-95 season. Due to the lock-out, the jerseys were never used in 1994-95, with a new set issued. A detailed LOA from the Sharks will accompany.
A number of dark marks are present on the lower front including a larger stick mark, with additional burns and marks over each sleeve. There are also marks over the lower reverse along with a material pull. Getty Image #1281105680 (May 23, 1994) has been matched to the black mark within the reverse white hem, while a second image shows the thinning black border from left to right along the top edge of the team crest, with the sewing anomaly at the top of the hockey stick also visible.
