A two-time Stanley Cup champion, defenseman Rob Ramage was chosen No. 1 overall by the ill-fated Colorado Rockies in the 1979 draft. Ramage’s 1979-80 Rockies game-worn jersey is from his NHL rookie season, when he was not eligible for Calder Trophy consideration because he played the previous season with the WHA’s Birmingham Bulls. Champion size 50 flag tag is inside the collar of this blue mesh gamer with rubberized Rockies crest on the front and numbers on the back and both sleeves. There is evidence of a former nameplate and the jersey was recycled from a previous set for Ramage to use in his first NHL season. There is a chevron-shaped team repair and blue paint transfer on the left of the front tail, which has had a portion cut off in the middle.
More game wear includes black marks on the front, red paint transfer to the right of the team repair on the left front tail, a team repair to the right of the No. 6 on the upper left sleeve, another on the lower right sleeve, board burns and unrepaired holes on the sleeves.
A photo of Ramage from the 1979-80 season shows a good tear on the lower front hem of the jersey. There is a small fight strap loop inside the jersey with an added double-garter-style fight strap above it. There are loose threads visible on the interior of the jersey from a former nameplate. The current nameplate has a portion of the stitching that has let go on its lower edge, which has been crudely reattached.
