From an avid pack-buster back in the day comes this stash of cards from the 1980s, with most groups in numerical order and rookie cards of Rickey Henderson (EX-MT) and Cal Ripken (NM-MT) leading the Topps contingent, with all years from 1980 to 1990 represented except for 1983 and approximate totals included below. It looks like the ’87 ensemble is the lone complete contributor, with ’81 and ’82 Topps sticker near sets and some Glossy Send-Ins from various years also present, but not other more notable RCs from the regular sets. …..The Donruss entries, with more key rookies, the attractive Diamond Kings and several complete “puzzles” may carry more allure. Rookie cards include those of Ripken (rough cut along bottom edge), Gwynn, Sandberg, Boggs and Maddux, with Bonds and Maddux Leaf rookies also present. The first three Donruss sets (’81, ’82 and ’83) are close to being complete (600+ each), with other totals below. The four groups of Leaf cards (from ’85 to ’89) average 200 each. After the ’80 and ’81 Topps lots, which exhibit intermittent touched/dinged corners, the vast majority are NM-or-better.
Topps card totals are as follows: 1980 (500), ’81 (400+ and over two dozen “Coke” cello packs), ’82 (500), ’83 (450), ’85 (300+), ’86 (550+), ’88 (400+, with a complete set (88) of Topps Big), ’89 (200) and ’90 (600). The last three years are not collated……Donruss totals are 1984 (300), ’85 (150), ’86 (250), ’87 (300), ’88 (350) and ’89 (400). The only year with considerable duplication is 1989 Donruss, with six Curt Schilling RCs noteworthy. Some fun to be had with this big batch, with MINT cards to be discovered.
