This lot of items originally from the estate of hockey icon Maurice Richard features a variety of documents, including five with his original signature dating from 1952 to 1993. The Rocket signed in pencil on a 1952 garment receipt and in black ink on a 1967 TV appearance contract. A TV ad contract from 1987, a TV appearance contract from 1988, and a 1991 contract addendum with La Presse newspaper and another La Presse contract in 1993 are each signed by Richard. A reproduction of the Rocket’s 1941-42 and 1942-43 NHL contract with the Montreal Canadiens is also included along with documents and brochures for his 1960 trip with his wife to Europe, a framed Richard caricature, and a fan’s statistical compilation of his first 500 NHL goals are included.
Richard placed a big pencil signature on a Made-to-Fit Garment Ltd. receipt dated Oct. 28, 1952 that measures 8 ?” x 5 ?”.
Richard signed in bold black ink a 1967 contract with Radio-Canada dated Nov. 6 for a $75 guest appearance on the “A la seconde” TV show broadcast on Nov. 9.
Richard signed in bold blue ballpoint ink a letter of agreement from Focal Advertising and Marketing Ltd. dated Feb. 27, 1987 for a TV ad contract for a first-year fee of $8,000, with options for the ad to run each of the following two years.
Richard signed in bold blue ballpoint ink on a Union des Artistes contract dated Sept. 27, 1988 for a $500 appearance on the “l’Autobus du Showbusiness” TV broadcast scheduled for broadcast on Oct. 8.
Richard signed in bold blue ink below witness Claude Masson’s black ink signature a 1991 addendum to a contract with La Presse newspaper. Comes with the La Presse cover letter addressed to Richard dated Oct. 3, 1991.
Richard signed in bold black marker below a witnesses’ signature on a four page 1993 contract with La Presse newspaper that comes with the La Presse cover letter dated Jan. 28, 1993 requesting his return of one signed copy of the contract.
A Globus Tours travel agency letter in French dated June 22, 1960 to Richard and his wife with a two-page itinerary for their June 23 - July 10 European trip to Prague, Rome, Venice, Nice, Paris, London and Brussels. Also are included are two vintage Globus Tours promotional brochures for the trip touting “Travel by Jet, 17 Unforgettable Days in Europe with Maurice Richard and his wife, Only $849” with the couple pictured on the cover, Richard’s personalized invitation appeal inside the fold, and the complete travel itinerary displayed in the centerfold.
A legal-size vintage Manila envelope addressed to “Mr. Maurice Richard, ? The Forum, St. Catherine St. West, Montreal, Que.” contains statistical sheets with details of the Rocket’s NHL goals. Included is a brief letter dated October 25, 1957 signed by the individual who compiled the statistics and sent them to Richard, and a published ode to the Rocket in French that was broadcast on radio station CKAC on Jan. 14, 1945.
